An angel appears to shepherds as they tend their sheep to bring a message, “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Many more angels will arrive to praise God with the message, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

The King James Version of the Bible interprets the words of the angels a differently. The modern phrase,  “Peace on earth, good will to men.” was derived from these later interpretations.
