Old Dominion State

Although Virginia was not the first state to join the union, it is commonly referred to as the birthplace of a nation, as it was discovered by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1584, and was the first permanent English settlement in the United States. Then, in June of 1788, Virginia finally joined the ranks as one of the original thirteen colonies and is the home to the iconic Founding Father, Thomas Jefferson. Virginia was an important locale due to its connections to George Washington, as it was the home of his Mount Vernon Plantation. During the Civil War, this “Old Dominion State” was taken over by General Robert E. Lee and joined the Confederacy in 1861. Today, Virginia welcomes thousands to its beautiful shores and mountains. With historic venues such as Williamsburg and the Jamestown Settlement, Virginia is truly a remarkable place to visit.

This colorful, dimensional ornament is a perfect keepsake of your visit to Virginia, or as a gift for someone lucky enough to call “Old Dominion” home.
