What’s in a Name

This nuclear-powered aircraft super carrier got its name from our first President and Founding Father, George Washington, who wrote, The Spirit of Freedom,” when describing the mood of the American people in a letter to a fellow patriot during the American Revolution. Over time, the USS George Washington was given the official seal of approval by First Lady Barbara Bush on July 4, 1992, in Norfolk, Virginia. It then left its homeport of Yokosuka Naval Base in Yokosuka, Japan in mid-2015. The flight deck alone is 4.5 acres with room for over 80 aircraft, and this carrier can accommodate a crew of 6,250. The two nuclear reactors on board permit the ship to go almost 18 years before needing to refuel and it can go as fast as 30+ knots.

This ornament is a perfect way to honor any sailor or military service member.  It also makes a great gift for history buffs.
