For school bus drivers and crossing guards, safety just isn’t a slogan, it’s a way of life. Their time devoted to students from elementary school to high school ensures parents that all who enter their crosswalk, or hop onto their bus is in good hands. Without these men and women, school days would not be the same. Before the age of school buses, the road to education was long and hard for many- as the distance made it nearly impossible for them to attend. Then, with the popularization of the automobile in the 19th century, early school transportation was born. Oddly enough, these first vehicles were not even buses at all, as horse drawn carriages would pick up children to go to school. However, as automotive technology advanced, the school bus we have all come to know and love eventually took shape. Today, both bus drivers and crossing guards works together to keep kids protected.
