History

Russia is the largest land encompassing country in the world and has the ninth highest population. Peter’s determination to transform Russia into a competing member of modern Europe and Western culture resulted in their strong army and advancements in medicine. Similarly, with Catherine the Great in power, education and religion became the main focus. Literacy throughout the nation skyrocketed, and the official religion became the Russian Orthodox Church. Today’s Russia is still highly based on the principles of its past, with the reign of rulers such as Peter and Catherine highly respected.

Culture
