History
Presque Isle Lighthouse is located in Presque Isle State Park. Nicknamed “Flash Light,” it is the most well-known of the 3 historic lighthouses in Erie. Built in 1873, this lighthouse was constructed as a replacement for the Land Lighthouse that had been sinking into the shifting sand. Originally 40 feet high, the tower grew 17 feet-4 inches taller in 1896 in order to project the light farther out. Attached, is a four-bedroom residence that was used by the lighthouse keeper. Today it is owed by a non-profit organization which restored and reopened it to tourists as a museum in 2015.
