An Interesting Path

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the 266th pope carries an extremely interesting past that lead him to his papal office in 2013. Pope Francis is the eldest of five children and was raised by an Italian immigrant father and native Argentinian mother. Originally born under the name was Jorge Mario Bergoglio, he chose Francis in honor of St. Francis of Assisi; however, before becoming a pope, Francis worked in many different fields. Graduating with a chemical technician’s diploma, he found employment in the food section of Hickethier-Bachmann Laboratory, and became a bouncer for various nightclubs. Other than slightly unusual jobs, many people may be shocked to know, Pope Francis only has one functioning lung as the other was removed when fell ill with pneumonia. Today, Pope Francis is by far one of the most beloved popes, as well as the most technically savvy- as he has amassed a following of over 9 million on Twitter alone.
