Jorge Mario Bergoglio

Born December 17, 1936 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Pope Francis’ given name is Jorge Mario Bergoglio. He was the eldest of five children, with a father who was an Italian immigrant, and a mother who was born in Buenos Aires. Before going into the seminary, the Pope spent some time working as a chemical technician and a nightclub bouncer.

Elected as the 266th Pope, his Papacy began on March 13, 2013. Pope Francis has found a special place in the hearts of men and women throughout the world.
