Working tirelessly day and night, nurses are truly heroic. Whether it be administering medication, giving emotional support, or helping in the midst of a health crisis- nurses are vital to our society’s well-being. There are currently more than 3 million licensed nurses and medical caregivers in the United States, with each of these men and women giving their expertise and compassion to those in need. Nurses are celebrated and thanked often with National Nurse Week” and even the official day of recognition “National Nurse Day” (May 6th). Some of the most notable nurses include Florence Nightingale, who played a major role in forming the foundation of modern nursing, as well as Clara Barton, who founded the American Red Cross.
