The Oldest Operating Incline

The Monongahela Incline (or The Mon” for short), opened on May 28, 1870 and is the oldest operating cable-powered incline in the USA. The cars can carry up to 23 passengers at a time and offer a stunning view as it descends and ascends the side of Mount Washington. Once at the top, observation decks provide a spectacular look at the city of Pittsburgh from above. Registered as a National Historic Landmark, the incline and the view are two of the city’s most popular tourist destinations. As one of the two inclines built in Pittsburgh during the late 19th century, renovations were made to strengthen the aging frame. From replacing the line’s steam engine with electrical equipment to adding a steel structure, the Monongahela is sure to last for generations of Pittsburghers to come.

This special ornament is sure to be a keepsake for generations to come. It is the perfect gift for any Pittsburgher to commemorate a visit to this spectacular landmark.
