A Stadium With a View

Citizens Bank Park is home to the Philadelphia Phillies, and was built to replace Veterans Stadium. Opening its gates to fans on April 3, 2004, the ballpark seats 43,500 fans who are able to view the Philadelphia skyline from their sapphire blue seats while watching their favorite team out on the grassy field. The first game was played at the park on April 12, 2004, between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Cincinnati Reds. In terms of its features, the 1.15 million square ft. stadium occupies 21 acres. Ten-foot high statues of Steve Carlton, Mike Schmidt, and Robin Roberts ring the outside of the park, and a statue of Richie Ashburn is located in Ashburn Alley. Additionally, a 52 x 35 foot neon “Liberty Bell” rings out whenever one of the Phillies hit a home run or win a game.
