History

Located on the Nantucket Harbor, the Brant Point Lighthouse in Massachusetts has been rebuilt seven times since the light was first established in 1746, making it the nation’s second oldest lighthouse. Earlier ones were often destroyed either by fire, strong storms or decay.

Specifications

The last and most current tower to be built is a white cylindrical tower that was first used on January 31, 1901. It was equipped with a fourth-order, fixed-red electric light which was 26 feet above the water with visibility 10 miles out to sea and a fog bell. The Brant Point Lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the shortest lighthouse in New England.
